sports: Blame Nigeria Coach for Nigeria Defeat Against Argentina
Nigerian coach Gernot Rohr should be blamed for Nigeria's defeat against Argentina for his choice of players selection and his negligence for not making substitution on time.
I arrived at this conclusion after analysing games preview, the coach should be blamed for not be able to secure a win or a draw that will see us through to the second round of the world cup game.
Nigeria vs Iceland Nigeria had no single shot at goal, zero goal attempt, zero blocked shot, zero shot off goal until one player (Ebuehi)was introduced on kicking off the second-half, he played the back wing side, he was playing forward, which made Musa to be more of a threat to the opponent . Idowu played along with Musa in the first half, but Idowu doesn't played deep, Musa had to fall back deep to get the ball but the ball easily taken from him before he could make a run from Nigeria half to the Icelander half, It was all the same but not worse as left wing side that Moses and Omeruo handled. Idowu was substituted for Ebuhehi who later influenced the game positively , he defends well and brought the ball to the Icelanders half where Musa pick the ball, this energised both wings to become real threat to the opponent.
It was obvious that the striker we started against Iceland was not making any threat upfront, rather does he influence the game.
My Question is that why should the Coach start the same striker and immobile defender in a game between Nigeria and Argentina, even if Idowu had to start the game , why he was not substituted in the second half of the game.
Nigeria vs Agentina
I m not questioning the decision of the coach but sometime when things goes wrong we need to ask questions.
Why will the coach not make substitution apart from the substituted immobile striker towards the second -half kick off, when the coach was watching his counterpart coach making three substitution at a go in 61m, 71m and 80m consecutively.
And these guys came in, gave new strength to the Argentine side and ran our men off their strength which was already exhausted, the 90min and extra time substitution he made after they scored us in 86min was meaningless.
I knew we missed scoring chances , yes they missed too, but the work of the coach is to see the game to safety, we only needed a draw which we had in our hand but our coach didn't do the right thing to secure the draw.
I gave kudos to the Nigeria Coach for his good work which sees Nigeria to world tournament and what he was able to achieve during the games but his lackadaisical attitude towards doing the right thing at the right time in the game knock us out of the competition earlier than predicted.
