The controversial recall of the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, has failed. The exercise failed as it could not garner the required 50 plus one percent of the total number of signatories to the petition calling for Melaye’s recall.
It only managed to get 5.34 percent of signatures verified by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Results of the exercise announced by the commission showed that the recall was a failure in all the seven local government areas that make up Kogi west senatorial district.

A breakdown of the results showed that Kogi west has a total of 351, 146 voters out of which 189, 870 were said to have signed the petition to recall the senator.

However, only 20, 868 constituents came out for the verification but only 18, 742, representing just 5.34 percent of the signatories, voted in support of Melaye’s recall.
